A BROMSGROVE man who said he was fed up of hearing about MPs and Lords abusing the expenses system has launched an online petition calling on them, regardless of party, to be investigated by the police.
And the list, set up by former postman Paul Tulk last Wednesday (April 9), amassed more than 1,000 signatures in less than a week.
Mr Tulk said watching so many expenses stories on the news and seeing the situation surrounding Maria Miller prompted him to take action and he launched the petition which is addressed to the Prime Minister and all the other party leaders.
He said he wanted Members of Parliament who deliberately falsely claimed to face the same justice the ordinary man on the street would receive if they were found guilty of similar misdemeanours.
"They work for us - we pay our taxes and something needs to be done.
"If people see this over and over again, people lose faith in democracy and become apathetic about voting in elections."
Mr Tulk, now a full-time carer for his wife Nicci who suffers with Parkinson's disease, Fibromyalgia and three slipped discs. said the expenses situation was made worse by the austeristy measures the Government was applying in other areas.
"You see them making cuts left, right and centre but then you see MPs claiming expenses they should not be claiming."
He said he had looked into the way the expenses were presented and it was all 'gobbledygook' and called for an overhaul in the system so it was more transparent.
"There needs to be some hard and fast rules," he said.
And he concluded by issuing a rallying call for more people to sign the online petition in a bid to get something done.
"If you hit a wasp nest, you don't just get stung by one wasp, you get stung several times and these MPs need to be stung by a lot of people," he added.
