A NEW scheme urging people to lend their elderly neighbours a helping hand is being piloted in Bromsgrove.

The B60 3 and B61 7 postcode areas are among those trialling the Worcestershire Good Neighbours project which it is hoped will help more older people maintain their independence through group activities and social events.

It is being funded by the People’s Health Trust under the Healthy Places, Healthy People project and is being run by the Worcestershire branch of the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS).

Helen Ward, the RVS’ service leader, said she was really excited to be expanding to offer more support to older people in the community.

“We want to help create a society where everyone feels valued and involved – a place where everyone can enjoy later life to the maximum.

“This grant will really help us to make a difference,” she added.

Service manager Helen Ward and service assistant Angela Kearn want to hear from residents who would like to be involved in the scheme and from older people about what activities they want to do. To contact them, call 01527 879290.
