YOUNGSTERS wanting to find out what it is like to be a popstar can go along to a new week-long performance workshop being run in Longbridge over Easter.

Pop Academy, being put on by The Star Project Theatre School, runs at the town’s Factory youth centre from April 14 to 18.

Among the professional performers and musicians teaching the youngsters valuable techniques, such as breathing, singing techniques, movement and choreography, will be singer-songwriter Rebekah Ryan.

She has worked with some of the world’s top record producers and has toured with Boyzone and Peter Andre. She was a finalist in the ‘over 25s’ on The X-Factor and her debut single You Lift Me Up was a big national club hit. She will also be speaking about her own experiences of a career in the music industry, offering tips on song-writing and some children will get to record their own song with her.

Jo Edwards, The Star Project’s principal, said it was wonderful to have Rebekah on board.

“There will be lots of interesting and fun projects throughout the week as they work towards recording a song, which will be presented on a CD for each child to keep.”

Participants can sing solo, in a duo or as a group and no previous performance or singing experience is needed.

Pop Academy is open to children of all abilities, from four to 18 years.

The week is £99 and places are limited so anyone interested in the workshops should visit www.thestarproject.info or call 07805 161533.
