AN ELDERLY Cathill resident who suffered a serious head wound received the care he needed thanks to a quick-thinking Bromsgrove Standard paperboy.

Zack McCrea, of Cobnall Road, was delivering his papers last Friday (April 4) when he noticed blood on the doorstep of a Shelly Close home.

After getting no answer, the 17-year-old rushed home to call for help.

The student, who also works at Webbs, showed police officers to the house where an elderly woman was tending to her 87-year-old husband who had fallen, suffered a nasty injury and was refusing to go to hospital.

On seeing the blood loss, officers called an ambulance and paramedics treated the man in his home.

Fiona Dockerty, Zack’s mum, said: “I’m so proud of Zack, if he can help someone he will, it is just in his nature.

“In the past Zack has helped old ladies cross the road, take their shopping in for them and even help clear their driveways when it has snowed.

“When people’s home were flooded, down the street, a couple of years ago he was out in the early hours of the morning helping them.”

Insp Gurjit Singh, who attended the incident, said Zack did a brilliant job and should be praised for his actions.

“Had he not of phoned us we obviously would not have know about this and who knows what the consequences could have been.”

The police will now be sending a letter of appreciation to Zack for his quick-thinking actions.
