FOUR masked robbers stole cash and cigarettes from a Belbroughton newsagents on Wednesday night (April 2).
The incident happened between 10pm and 10.30pm when the two employees at McColl’s in the High Street were cashing up.
The raiders burst in through the back door and attacked them - one was threatened with a bottle and the other one was punched in the face.
They were then forced to open the safe and the men, who all had their faces covered, took cash along with cigarettes and a neck chain from one of the workers.
The employees were pushed into a toilet and ordered to stay there while the four fled, again through the back door.
The staff, who suffered bruising and were shaken up by the incident, were checked over by an ambulance crew but were not seriously injured.
As The Standard went to press yesterday (Thursday), detectives were studying CCTV footage and door-to-door enquiries in the area were being carried out.
The Safer Neighbourhood Team is carrying out reassurance patrols and officers will be focusing extra attention on other shops and businesses in the village.
Det Sgt Natalie Martin from North Worcestershire CID said: “The robbers indicated they were armed but no weapons were actually seen.”
She added it was thought they would have parked off an alleyway behind the store or maybe on the car park of the Ye Olde Horseshoe Inn which is near the back of the shop.
DS Martin appealed for anyone who saw any of the men, or the vehicle they were using in High Street or in and around Nash street to call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
“Any detail, no matter how small, could be useful to our investigation and it’s important we catch these men as soon as possible,” added DS Martin.
