A CALL for Second World War Naval Veterans who can help complete records for future generations has been made.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Legasee Educational Trust has been working on a 'Keeping Britain Afloat' project.

The team has been searching for people in their 90s in an effort to capture first-hand accounts, personal stories and recollections from the war.

All the information gathered will be used to create educational archive for schools, universities and military enthusiasts.

Bromsgrove man Albert Malin is the latest to share his story in an interview.

Albert told his tale from when he was a torpedo-man on the HMS Oxlip and had to watch a sister ship, the Bluebell, sink and leave only one survivor.

He also shared his memories from when he took part in several Russian convoys and when he met locals in Murmansk.

Albert said everyone was gathered on the ship's upper deck when its engines broke down.

He added how he had to watch a convey sail away, leaving his ship alone, just after they had said ’Goodbye Oxlip, all the best - we will see if we can help you'.

Mr Martin Bisiker, the Legasee's co-founder, said it was now or never as time was running out for them to complete the records.
