THERE will be closures or part closures at some Bromsgrove schools on Wednesday (March 26) because of industrial action by the National Union of Teachers (NUT).
Aston Fields Middle School, Catshill First and Nursery School, Catshill Middle and Chaddesley Corbett Endowed Primary School will be completely shut for all pupils on that day.
And among the partial closures are Crown Meadow First School and Nursery, which will be shut for Class 11 (Year 4), South Bromsgrove High - open to all year groups, with the exception of year nine, and Rigby Hall School which will only be open to primary pupils and 4GMY.
Members of the NUT will hold marches and rallies on that day in protest against, the union states, over excessive workloads and bureaucracy, what it considers unfair pension changes and performance-related pay, in defence of a national pay scale system.
Christine Blower, the NUT's general secretary, said: “Teachers deeply regret the disruption caused by this strike action to parents and teachers.
"The Government’s refusal, however, to engage to resolve the dispute means that we have no alternative other than to demonstrate the seriousness of our concerns.
“Teachers’ levels of workload are intolerable –the Government’s own survey, published last month, shows primary school teachers work nearly 60 hours a week and secondary school teachers work nearly 56 hours a week."
She added statistics also showed two in five teachers were leaving the profession in the first five years of teaching, which was bad for children and bad for education.
