Awards evening for Bromsgrove Poppy Appeal

RESIDENTS who made last year's Bromsgrove Poppy Appeal such a success were honoured at a special awards night last Wednesday (March 19).

The current total for the town's annual drive stands at £21,175.71, already beating last year's by more than £2,000 and there are still wreath donations to be handed in.

Bromsgrove District Council's Civic Head, Coun Helen Jones, and the Royal British Legion's Worcestershire county vice-chairman Alan Kelly also gave out long service awards for those who had been involved in the Poppy Appeal from five to 40 years.

Pauline Troth, Terry Groves, Fred Pearson, Tony Warren and Fred Stanley all received recognition for notching up 30 years, Averl Perks 35 years and Derek Goode 40.

The branch also introduced two new awards which will now become annual accolades.

The Bob Harris Memorial Cup, for the independent trader which had raised the most money, went to Broad Street DIY for boosting the coffers by £179.99 and the Bill Goode Memorial Cup for the individual who had collected the highest amount was presented to Thomas Barrett. He raised £870.54.
