AN ABANDONED dog was found left tied up to a fence post on a path in Waseley Hills County Park last Monday (March 3).

A dog warden was called to rescue the Bull cross pooch which had white and tan markings and no collar after a report from a concerned resident.

The dog has been taken to a council kennel but so far the owner has not come forward to claim her.

Mark Box, senior practitioner for the dog warden service, said this was just one of many incidents where they had been called out to collect an animal because their owners had decided they no longer wanted them.

"Our kennels are full of them, unfortunately in this case the owner has not come forward and due to the dog having behavioural problems we cannot rehome her.

"While we do try as hard as possible to rehome every dog we would never put the public at risk unnecessarily.

"Since last year we have had 1,060 stray dogs and we have matched up 832 of those with their owners - the remainder left we tirelessly try to rehome, when possible."

A local resident said the distress and fear the poor dog had endured was unspeakable.

"Hopefully this person will be traced and be prosecuted," she added.

Anyone with any information should contact the dog warden on 01527 881288.
