Severn Trent apology after 4,500 Bromsgrove homes lose their water supply

SEVERN Trent has apologised to Bromsgrove residents after 4,500 households across the district lost their water supply yesterday afternoon and evening (Tuesday).

It was caused by a 15ins pipe bursting in the middle of a field off the Stourbridge Road in Catshill about 2pm. Because of its location, it was hard for the water company's engineers to find and it was equally difficult to fix.

Once the leak was located, a temporary measure was put in place and water was supplied to homes in the B60 and B61 area by Severn Trent switching valves on its network of pipes. A Severn Trent spokesperson said by last night, everyone had their supply put back on.

Then this morning, because of the increased demand for water at this time of day, the temporary measure put in place on the pipe was breached, leaving residents without water or with low water pressure. That affected around 3,000 homes for a short time and then 200 for slightly longer.

The spokesperson added everyone should have their water back on by now.

"We worked around the clock to get the problem fixed as soon as possible.

"We want to apologise to those affected - we understand how difficult it is when you don't have water, especially at those times of day when it's time to make dinner and bath the children or get them ready for school."
