THE CAR used in the Barnt Green Tesco Express armed robbery in which the raiders threatened to shoot a cashier has been recovered in Birmingham.

Officers invesigating the incident have now made a second appeal for information following the discovery on a car park in Druids Heath at 6pm yesterday (Wednesday) of the red Skoda Fabia, which has the registration number X556 FEH.

The vehicle is now undergoing a forensic examination.

The robbery took place at the Hewell Road store just after 9pm on Monday (March 10) when two men whose faces were masked with tights burst into the Tesco Express and approached a shop assistant who was cashing up the self-service tills.

They demanded money and made their threats, although no weapons were seen. They then took a quantity of cash out of her hand before fleeing the store.

The third man took a member of staff up the stairs to where someone else was working before he asked them to open the safe, which they were unable to do. He then went back downstairs with a bag of coins and threw them on the floor.

Det Con Hilary Martin, from North Worcestershire CID, said: “We will be visiting addresses in Idmiston Croft to see if anyone saw this car being parked there and the men who were using it.

"We are also appealing for people to get in touch with us if they saw this vehicle or know anyone who was using it between the robbery on Monday evening and last night when it was found.

“Someone may have seen the Skoda arriving there and the men walking off or transferring to another vehicle which had been left there for that purpose.

"If you saw or know anything at all that could be connected with this then please get in touch.”

The getaway car was driven off in the direction of Sandhills Road. No-one was injured during the incident.

One of the robbers was about 5ft 8ins tall, slim, and wearing a Superdry-style waist-length black jacket, and black trousers. The second man was about 5ft and was stockier. He was wearing a black bomber style jacket with elasticated waist and cuffs, possibly made of a shiny material, black trousers and black woolly gloves which had a red Spiderman patch on the back. The third raider was also dressed all in black and possibly had curly or bushy hair.

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call detectives at Kidderminster Police Station 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
