Raiders threatened to shoot cashier in Barnt Green raid

THREE masked armed robbers stole a quantity of cash from Tesco Express in Barnt Green last night (Monday), threatening to shoot the cashier if the money was not handed over.

The men who had covered their faces with tights entered the Hewell Road store just after 9pm.

Two of them approached a shop assistant who was cashing up the self-service tills before they demanded money and mad their threats, although no weapons were seen. They then took a quantity of cash out of her hand before fleeing the store.

The third man took a member of staff up the stairs to where someone else was working before he asked them to open the safe, which they were unable to do. He then went back downstairs with a bag of coins and threw them on the floor.

The trio left in the direction of Sandhills Road and got into a red Skoda Fabia, which had the registration number X556 FEH.

One man was around 5ft 8ins tall, of slim build, and was wearing a Superdry-style waist-length black jacket and black trousers.

The second man was around 5ft tall and was stockier - he was wearing a black bomber style jacket with elasticated waist and cuffs, possibly made from a shiny material, black trousers and black woolly gloves with red Spiderman patches on the back.

The third was also dressed all in black and possibly had curly or bushy hair.

Det Sgt Steve Cook said: "The three female assistants were not injured, although they were extremely shaken.

"We would like to hear from anyone who saw the incident or who saw the vehicle in the area or knows where it is now."

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call 0300 333 3000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
