IT WILL be an emotional day on Sunday (March 9) when popular vicar Rev Chris Wingfield gives his final service at St John’s Church in Bromsgrove.

Rev Wingfield is taking up a new role just outside York. As the Rector of the Harton benefice, he will be in charge of ten churches and their parishes, which span 14 villages.

He became the vicar of St John’s and St Andrew’s in Charford in 2009 and has been involved in a number of community projects during his time in Bromsgrove.

He said: “It’s been wonderful here - one of the best experiences of my life.

“There has been a fantastic fellowship and so much support from the parishes.”

On Shrove Tuesday, Rev Wingfield was at the annual pancake event at St John’s where there was a variety of activities on offer.

As well as having both sweet and savoury pancakes - from the traditional sugar and lemon and chocolate sauce to chilli con carne - there was also a treasure hunt in the church.

The service on Sunday starts at 10.45am and there will be a farewell luncheon afterwards.
