A FORMER North Bromsgrove High School teacher accused of four counts of sexual assault is due to appear at Redditch Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (March 11).

David Crowther, of West Road, has been charged with two counts of squeezing a 14-year-old girl's bottom, one count of touching a 14-year-old girl's bottom and a further count of slapping a 14-year-old girl's bottom.

He is alleged to have done this in Bromsgrove between June 1 2012 and September 30 2012.

The 55-year-old first appeared at Redditch Magistrates' Court on Tuesday (March 4) but the case was adjourned while paperwork was sorted out.

David Hadley-Pryce, North Bromsgrove High School's headteacher, said they were aware the former teacher was appearing at court on charges of sexual assault.

He added: "When this matter was brought to our attention he was immediately suspended from duty and subsequently formally resigned.

"At North Bromsgrove High School we take the safeguarding of our pupils extremely seriously.

"We have been supporting the police with their investigations but are unable to comment further whilst the case is ongoing."

Crowther has been released on conditional bail until he appears next week.

The magistrates told him he cannot contact anyone under the age of 17 without the supervision of someone who had been authorised by Children's Services.
