TWO YOUTHS have been jailed for three years each after pleading guilty to two knife robberies and an attempted robbery in Bromsgrove.
The incidents, involving the 17-year-olds, happened in July last year. In the first they forced an 18-year-old man to hand over an Apple iPhone worth £500 and, in the second, they searched the pockets of 20-year-old man, taking a Samsung Galaxy phone and a wallet, worth a total of £540.
They took place in Sanders Park and in Worcester Road and following the incidents, the pair - one from Bromsgrove and the other from Evesham - tried to sell the phones they had stolen.
They were also charged with attempting to rob a 19-year-old woman who was with the first victim.
Welcoming the jail terms, the police said the youths were aggressive to their victims, showing them a knife, threatening to kill one of them and claiming to be part of a notorious gang.
Det Con Ash Kumar of West Mercia Police said the sentences given to the youths - who were only 16 at the time - showed the severity with which the court viewed robbery and attempted robbery.
"One was known to the police, while the other had no previous convictions.
"There is no doubt the victims were too afraid to resist.
“The incidents, happening as they did in the same area of Bromsgrove on subsequent evenings, caused a considerable amount of concern in the local community," he added.
