THE CHAIRMAN of Bromsgrove District Council has spoken about her battle with breast cancer and praised the town's Princess of Wales Community Hospital for the staff's amazing help and support.

Coun June Griffiths was diagnosed after going for a mammogram in November.

A friend of her daughter Sarah had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease and after going to get herself checked out, she suggested her mum should too.

With that in the back of her mind and, having seen a poster about breast cancer in her local GP surgery, Coun Griffiths went for a routine mammogram.

Despite having no symptoms at all, the results came back showing there were abnormalities.

She was sent for further tests and a biopsy then revealed she had breast cancer.

She had an operation in January and has now been given the all clear.

Throughout everything she had been through, she said consultant Nick Purser and his team at the Princess of Wales Community Hospital were 'absolutely marvellous'.

"The staff there were so reassuring - they are such a cosy group who give you all the help and support you need.

"The consultant even called up to see how I was - I cannot praise them enough for everything they did."

And she said it was lucky that it was caught early.

"In 12 months time it could have been a very different story."
