MORE than 200 brownies from across the district got together at South Bromsgrove High School to celebrate 100 years of guiding.

The girls, who were treated to a carnival-themed party, came from 12 different packs, including Alvechurch, Barnt Green, Cofton, Lickey, Blackwell and Bromsgrove.

Among the activities were garland making, a Samba-based carnival workshop, a brownie singsong, a birthday cake - a giant smartie cookie - and the singing of happy birthday.

Each one put their individual stamp on the bunting which was used for the event and a number of ex-brownie leaders also went along.

Brownies and girl guide troupes are always looking for new adult leaders. Visit for more information on becoming involved - either as a leader or a member of a brownie or guide pack.

• This Saturday (February 22) is the Girl Guides’ annual ‘World Thinking Day’ where members are encouraged to think about fellow friends around the globe. It falls on that day because it was the joint birthday of Lord Robert and Lady Olave Baden-Powell - the founders of scouting and guiding.
