A BROMSGROVE mum has praised the quick-thinking actions of her nine-year-old daughter and her friend after they came to her rescue when she fell down the stairs.
Emma Tolley was holding her six-month-old daughter Sally when she tumbled down the flight at the family's Stoke Prior home.
Luckily, she cradled the baby in her arms and protected her in the fall but she lay unconscious at the bottom of the stairs with blood everywhere.
When she came round, her older daughter Lucy, who attends Stoke Prior First School, had already called the ambulance and was on the phone to other family members explaining what had happened.
Her friend Mollie Caldicott, who is also nine and goes to the same school, had ran to her home down the road to get further assistance from her mum.
Emma told The Standard that, because she was diabetic, they had always told Lucy that if she saw mummy unconscious to call 999 for an ambulance and it had obviously sank in.
"There is a wooden floor and a brick wall at the bottom of the stairs so it was a pretty bad fall.
"Luckily my mother's instinct kicked in and I managed to protect Sally - she was completely unhurt.
"I was uncosncious for just a couple of minutes but when I came round I was confused and dazed until the following morning."
After the fall, Emma was taken to Redditch's Alexandra Hospital with black eyes and cuts and bruises to her face.
She was kept in at the Alex for two nights while she fully recovered.
Emma said she was so proud of Lucy and Mollie and the way they reacted after the incident.
"I dread to think what would have happened if the girls hadn't have been there.
"I just can't thank them enough for everything they did," she added.
