AN EVENT aimed at romantic residents saw 15 couples renew their wedding vows a week before Valentine's Day at Bromsgrove Methodist Church on Saturday (February 8).

The pairs had an impressive 503 years of marriage between them and the most recent was a couple who were toasting ten years since tying the knot.

Presiding over the special service were Rev Christine Holzapfel (All Saints and St Godwalds) and Rev Richard Wilde (Bromsgrove Methodist Church) and music was provided by Grace Church and New Song Churches.

The gathering in Bromsgrove was one of many throughout the country sponsored by Care for the Family and it was family and friends who came along to publically support those taking part.

A ceremonial cake was cut and tea and coffee was served at the event, which saw both tears of joy shed and much laughter and love in the building.

Rev Wilde said: “This has been a wonderful moment as my wife and I joined all the other husbands and wives in giving thanks for the past all that has gone well as well as difficult times shared.

"In fact it can be through times of adversity that we realise just how vital our partner is.”

The event was so successful that the organisers are proposing to make this an annual event at the beginning of National Marriage Week with the next one starting on February 7, 2015.
