One week left to speak on 490 Bromsgrove homes plan

A RALLYING call has been made to residents living in or around Whitford Road who have just one week left to have their say on the controversial planning application to build 490 homes in the area.

The consultation period for the development, which also includes a shop, new road access to Whitford Road and a new public open space, comes to an end next Friday (February 14).

About 130 comments have already been posted on the Bromsgrove District Council website, highlighting a range of concerns, including highways safety, air pollution and lack of amenities.

But the majority of those commenting expressed concerns about the road infrastructure and potential traffic problems the development would cause.

Roy Dixon, the chairman of campaign group Whitford Vale Voice, said: “The response we have had so far has been encouraging and the content has been even more encouraging.

“We are hoping more people will make an extra special effort and have their say before the deadline.”

Whitford councillor Luke Mallett said: “I would encourage anyone who feels they will be affected by this proposal to make their views known.

“I have been campaigning right alongside the Whitford Vale Voice group because as the local councillor, I can see the serious damage that the development would cause.

“The council and the Highways department have to think again about the road designs that are in the plans.

“I think this site should never have been considered without a proper plan for improving the roads and infrastructure.

“All the housing seems to be on the west side of the town and all the employment and transport is on the east side, meaning there will be a lot of people travelling across Bromsgrove.

“It has the potential to create gridlock,” he added.

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council confirmed it was considering the highways element of the Whitford Road planning application.

Those wanting to have their say should type ‘Whitford Road’ into the search box at http://appuview.bromsgrove.gov.uk/online-applications/ or email pec@bromsgroveandredditch.gov.uk using the application reference 13/0479.

Alternatively, people can use the same reference number and have their say by writing to Development Control, Bromsgrove District Council, Burcot Lane, Bromsgrove. B60 1AA.
