BROMSGROVE'S branch of Mothercare is closing down in March, the company has revealed.
The firm said the move was part of a bigger plan to transform the business.
There were rumours circulating towards the end of last year that the store was shutting but, back then, the company said then it was not the case.
Now it has confirmed it will close on March 19.
A spokesperson told The Standard: "The plan will see us close a small number of our unprofitable stores across the UK whilst investing in cutting edge online and mobile shopping channels, as well as refurbishing some of our other larger stores to make the experience even better for our customers.
"We will be emailing our customers in the Bromsgrove area to advise of the changes.
"We thank them again for their continued support and hope they continue to shop with us online, via our mobile app and at our recently refurbished flagship Dudley store."
Coun Chris Bloore, who represents Sidemoor on the district council, said had been contacted by a number of residents who would be losing their jobs.
"I am deeply disappointed to hear that Mothercare will be closing their Bromsgrove High Street store.
"It is desperately sad news for those who use the store and the local residents who will lose their jobs in difficult economic times.
"It is yet another sign that Bromsgrove District Council's plan to regenerate the High Street isn’t happening soon enough.
"Another loss of a big name store following on from Waterstone’s shows that there won't a high street left by the time the dithering council finally takes some action."
But a Bromsgrove District Council spokesperson said: "It was a national decision taken by Mothercare and nothing to do with the district council.
"Next week, people will see for themselves preparation work starting for the high street regeneration.
"This is proof that the project is moving forward."
