RUBERY readers celebrated the 50th anniversary of the village library with a special coffee morning and book shaped cake.

Over 40 current and past members of staff, residents and councillors joined the gathering to reminisce over half a century’s worth of memories.

During the get-together everyone took it in turns to sign a commemorative memory book to write down their best recollections of the library.

Katie Stanton, Rubery Library’s shared manager, said the book would be kept out for the next couple of weeks for local residents who wished to write in their happy memories of the library too.

She added: “The day went absolutely fanatically, it was really nice listening to the happy memories people had of the library.

“The cake was so glorious some came back for seconds,” she added.
