A BROMSGROVE man has been disqualified from driving for 15 months and ordered to pay £415 after being almost twice over the legal limit.

Philip Wilkes, 52, of Kings Court, Worcester Road, Rock Hill, was stopped in his Vauxhall Astra on January 19.

He admitted to officers to consuming alcohol and was arrested.

When he appeared before Redditch magistrates on Tuesday (February 4), Wilkes apologised for his actions and said, although it was no excuse, his business had been liquidated, he was going through a divorce and was in the process of selling his home.

"I was in a bad place," he added.

District Judge Nigel Cadbury told Wilkes his early guilty plea had been taken into account and the fact he had no previous offences.

But he said, after blowing 58 microgrammes of alcohol in 100mililitres of breath, Wilkes was nearly twice the legal drink-drive limit.

He handed him a 15-month ban, fined him £300 with £85 costs and ordered him to pay a £30 victim surcharge.
