MORE than 1,000 young people entered a public art competition which challenged them to depict what Longbridge meant to them.

The contest, organised by developers St Modwen, saw entrants put their ideas on the back of an oversized postcard and, after some tough judging, four winners were selected.

They were Libby Durose from Bournville College, Millie Chappell-Pilgrim from St Columba’s Catholic Primary School and Keah Jones and Lily Evans, both from Albert Bradbeer Primary School.

Their winning designs have now been printed on a special Bag 4 Life by Sainsbury's and they, along with the rest of the 20 which made the final, will now be displayed in a pop-up gallery in a unit next to Costa.

St Modwen's property manager Andrea Bolton said the competition highlighted everything that made Longbridge town centre such a great place to live, work and socialise in.

"It was fantastic to see just how highly the local community regards Longbridge - with drawings ranging from children playing in the park with friends, the new shops and facilities in the town centre and the classic minis that were produced at the old MG Rover factory."

The special Bags 4 Life will be given to members of the public during community events held in Longbridge town centre.

The winners have also been given art materials to help them develop their creative talents.
