TWO PETITIONS objecting to the potential Bromsgrove bus cuts were submitted to Worcestershire County Council last Thursday (January 16).
Over 700 people signed the two lists which were presented at County Hall by Coun Christopher Bloore.
One was made by residents from the Stoke parish against the withdrawal of their only bus service, the 141.
The other was collected on the Bromsgrove High Street and was on the threats to services, such as the 007, 145 and 318, which serve the town and its surrounding villages.
Coun Christopher Bloore said all petitioners believed a cut in bus subsidies would be extremely damaging to the area.
He added they would have a serious affect on those who relied on bus services to get them to and from school and work, to the supermarket or even to the doctors or the hospital.
"It will cut off communities and will damage the future economic prosperity and social fabric of my devision and town."
The county council thanked the 8,500 people, including residents in Bromsgrove and Droitwich, who took part in the consultation on the proposed £3million bus subsidy cuts.
All of the views and comments will now be analysed and put into a report ready to be discussed at County Hall on February 6.
But any potential changes to the bus subsidies will not be implemented until September.
Coun John Smith OBE, Worcestershire County Council's Cabinet Member for Highways, said: "The response to the consultation has been fantastic and I'd like to thank everyone that's taken the time to share their views regarding subsidised bus services.
"The information we've received is now being looked at and will be considered before any final is made."
