TWO district councillors and one county councillor are calling for something to be done about parking outside Bromsgrove schools and speeding vehicles nearby in a bid to protect pupils from having a serious accident.

Coun Caroline Spencer and Coun Rod Laight said they were responding to pleas from concerned parents of children at Finstall First School and Aston Fields Middle.

Coun Laight said: “We are liasing with the police who are stepping up patrols to advise drivers on safe parking.

“A maximum speed limit of 20mph needs to be applied during the peak times.”

Worcestershire County Councillor Kit Taylor is also pressing Highways officers in a bid to get something done.

He said: “This is a serious situation and of course we want a solution urgently but the problems are being experienced by schools nationwide and are mainly due to a lot of parents dropping off and picking up their children and causing traffic congestion.

A motion has been submitted to the next meeting of the full Worcestershire County Council.

That asks for cross-party support for the council to write to the leader of the authority, asking that all pupils in Bromsgrove be safeguarded by implementing the suggested measures.

A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: “We have been working with Coun Kit Taylor and continue to look for a viable solution. “
