A BROMSGROVE couple in their 80s were pushed to the floor in their own home after two men burst in and robbed them of just £20 worth of foreign currency.

A total of 200 Hong Kong Dollars were taken from the pair following the attack, which took place just before 9pm last Tuesday (January 17) at the home in Broad Street, Sidemoor.

The elderly man opened the door after one of the raiders claimed there was a fire at the bottom of the garden. The two men then burst in and knocked the phone from the elderly woman's hand as she tried to call the police.

One of them stayed with the couple while the other ransacked the house and found the dollars.

The pair, who fled on foot with the cash, were both white, in their late 20s to early 30s and had their hoods up and scarves across their faces.

Det Con Jake Wright from West Mercia Police said the man in particular was extremely vulnerable and, although the pair were not hurt, it was a very frightening ordeal for them.

“We would like to hear from any local business who are approached by anyone attempting to use or convert Hong Kong Dollars,” he added.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
