MARRIED couples can rekindle their romance in Bromsgrove next month by renewing their wedding vows at the town’s Methodist Church Centre a week before Valentine’s Day.
The event, at 4.30pm on February 8, is part of the Care for the Family’s nationwide scheme to promote the value and relevance of marriage in today’s society.
The special service, which it is hoped will be participated in by as many married couples as possible, will be performed by Bromsgrove Methodist Church’s Rev Richard Wilde and Church of England minister Rev Christine Holzapfel.
The scheme, the brainchild of Martin and Sylvia Eaton who have run relationship seminars at Gracechurch, Bromsgrove, has the support of all of the churches in the district and it was Churches Together which was tasked with arranging the event.
Rev Wilde said: “I have been enjoyed the privilege of presiding at many weddings in almost 30 years of ministry in this country and overseas.
“In marriage we touch into deep things which go beyond words – I have seen both husbands and wives in tears of deep joy as they make or remake their promises.
“Standing in front of them I see things most of the congregation are not able to as their love, hope and pleasure move my heart.”
He added he had married couples young, those later in life who had never been married and some who were taking a second chance of a life-long love.
“I have seen the power of renewing an established marriage after a tough time or just marking a milestone,” he said.
The run-through will take place at 4.30pm with the shared ceremony at 5.15pm.
The renewal ceremony being done by Rev Wilde and Rev Holzapfel will last between 20 and 30 minutes.
Refreshments will be served afterwards and a cake will be cut.
Music will be provided by Gracechurch Bromsgrove and everyone, whether they have been married for years or just recently, along with their family and friends, is welcome.
Those wanting to take part need to give their names and the number of people accompanying the happy couple to Rev Wilde on 01527 873765, Rev Holzapfel on 01527 579561 or Martin and Sylvia Eaton on 0121 447 7013.
