A FOOTBALL match held at Bromsgrove School on January 12 has raised £424 for a charity set up in memory of murdered teenager Georgia Williams.

The game, which saw Telford and Wrekin Territorial Policing Unit beat the North Worcestershire unit 7-1, was organised by Redditch PC Stuart Baugh for the Georgia Williams Trust.

Seventeen-year-old Georgia was killed in Wellington, Telford, last year.

About 100 friends and supporters, including Georgia's family, and Georgia’s dad - West Mercia Det Con Steve Williams - came on as a substitute in the second half. After the final whistle, the Georgia Williams Trophy was presented by the teenager's mum Lynette and it is hoped, after its success, the match will now become an annual event.

PC Baugh said: “It was a good turn-out considering it was a wet and very cold Sunday afternoon.

"We might need a bit more practice together before playing Telford and Wrekin again but the main thing is everyone enjoyed it and we raised a decent sum for a very worthwhile cause.”

The Trust’s chairman, Richard Langton, said it was a real family occasion and thanked everyone involved for giving up their time.“

The trust, which has already raised more than £30,000 in its first six months, aims to generate funds and activities so young people can participate in life-building activities and contribute to their local community.
