NORTH Worcestershire Police will take on their Telford and Wrekin counterparts in a charity football match in memory of murdered teenager Georgia Williams.

The game will kick off at 3pm on Sunday (January 12) on the all-weather pitch at Bromsgrove School, with all the money going to the Georgia Williams Trust.

The charity was started in memory of 17-year-old Georgia who was killed in Wellington, Telford, last year. The organisation raised a staggering £30,000 in its first six months and the cash collected will fund character building activities for young people so they can tmake positive contributions to their community.

Spectators are being urged to donate £1 each and the players will each contribute £5 to the trust.

The match has been organised by Redditch-based PC Stuart Baugh who wanted to put on a charity match for the cause.

Georgia's dad is a serving West Mercia Police officer who has worked on major investigations in North Worcestershire which, added PC Baugh, made it all the more fitting.

“We are hoping for a good turn-out on Sunday afternoon and I’m sure it will be an enjoyable occasion for all concerned.

"There has been a good response from officers and staff in both areas and the fact anyone who is booked will be asked to make a further donation should help ensure that the match played in the right spirit.”

Richard Langton, the chairman of The Georgia Williams Trust, said the match was the latest in a growing number of fund-raisers for the cause, which had also included full and half-marathons and moustache growing.

"We very much hope this will become an annual event and to play for a trophy in Georgia's name will be particularly poignant.

"I am sure it will be proudly displayed in whichever police station it ends up in.”
