RESIDENTS hoping to shed some pounds this new year can now download a healthy-eating iPhone app which helped its Rednal creator lose two-and-a-half stone in five months.
Donato Esposito, also known as the Bostin bloke, came up with the new food-logging and body shaping app called WIET - What I’m Eating Today.
Donato describes the technology as ‘like instagram for food’ and said WIET allows users to snap each meal and record it in a visual food diary before they tuck in.
This allows them to monitor and moderate their eating habits, while social network supporters and the app does the rest.
While testing the technology Donato found like Professor Ryan Elder’s, from Utah’s Brigham Young University, research - those who studied pictures of their food were less inclined to eat as much.
Users can share as little or as much as they wish with their online friends and have access to a special index which allows them to measure themselves against others’ progress.
They will be able to compare eating habits, food patterns, body shapes, weight and exercise regimes - which will all help towards keeping users motivated.
Donato spent two years with David Honey, his business partner, and a development team based in Longbridge Technology Park creating the snap-and-go style application.
Donato said the app had been designed to fit in with any lifestyle with minimum disruption and maximum convenience so those using aiding dieting apps no longer had to scan barcodes, upload nutritional values and add new items to databases.
“There are a number of apps designed to help users monitor their food intake and count calories, but often, they solely base their recommended daily calorie intake on age alone, rather than sex, build and lifestyle.
“WIET is all about the individual,” he added.
There is a free version of the app as well as the pro version. For more, visit www.wiet.mobi and check it out on Facebook - www.facebook.com/mywiet - and Twitter - www.twitter.com/mywiet.
