Young people being sought to be the next police cadets

YOUNGSTERS interested in a future career in the police force have been encouraged to apply to become a cadet later this year.

West Mercia Police Cadets are now recruiting new members for their September intake with the force looking to sign up 14 new cadets for each policing area it covers.

Youngsters aged 16 who will have finished secondary school education by September this year can apply to become a cadet.

Cadets take part in a variety of activities, including self-defence training, marching, fitness and role-playing as well as team building and Outward Bounds weekends.

Meeting every Thursday night at Redditch Police Station, they also gain a valuable insight into police life throughout talks by guest speakers from different departments of the force and agencies, as well as taking part in community policing events.

By doing these activities they develop discipline, friendship and teamwork and the satisfaction of knowing they are making a difference to their community and developing themselves for a future career.

To apply, applicants will need to fill in an application form, attend a formal interview and take part in the Police Initial Recruitment Test.

Application forms, available to download from West Mercia Police's website, must be submitted by April 6.
