Bromsgrove MP echoes Chancellor's 'hard truths' message

THE BROMSGROVE MP has echoed calls from Chancellor George Osborne that 2014 is 'going to be a year of hard truths'.

Mr Osborne made his speech on Monday (January 6), claiming a further £25billion in spending cuts would have to be made after the next general election in 2015, with most of it coming from the welfare budget.

Writing in his monthly Westminster Diary for The Standard, Sajid Javid said the progress that had been made with the UK's economy 'could not be taken for granted'.

"That's why 2014 is the year of hard truths. Do we say 'the worst is over' and go back to living beyond our means?

"Or do we say to ourselves: yes, things are getting better, but there is still a long way to go, and we have more repairs to make and more difficult decisions to take.

"The responsible choice is to continue with our plan by reducing the deficit and help keeping mortgage rates low, cutting income taxes and freezing fuel duty to help hardworking, creating more jobs by backing small business and enterprise with better infrastructure and lower jobs taxes, capping welfare and reducing immigration so our economy delivers for people who want to work hard and play by the rules, and delivering the best schools and skills for young people so the next generation can succeed in the global race."

He concluded by claiming it was about more than just growing the economy.

"Our plan is about instilling a new belief in Britain, so we can all have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you can provide for your family.

"We can go on working through a plan that is delivering for Britain, or we can squander what we've achieved and go back to the days of easy promises and spending money we don’t have - that’s the choice facing people in Bromsgrove and throughout Britain."
