AN APPEAL has been launched by a Bromsgrove man in a bid to get as many books as possible to send to Malawi.

Mike Richardson contacted The Standard after a similar successful appeal for the Midlands-based Krizevac project two years ago.

Residents and organisations which have books they do not want can donate them to the cause and the educational and school books will be used to equip the school's library. Other books that are donated will be used by residents over there to help them improve their English language skills and knowledge of different subjects.

As well as the books, the charity is also looking for unwanted bikes and sewing machines which will also be shipped to Malawi and refurbished. That will aid the charity's work, make an important contribution to the infrastructure and provide residents with much-needed modes of transport.

Mr Richardson told The Standard: "The beauty of this charity is that everything goes directly to the people who need it.

"The response last time was phenomenal and we are hoping for a similar response this time around.

"The people of Bromsgrove and Droitwich were superb - they were all so generous.

Mr Richardson will collect and box the books so they can be sent onto Malawi.

To arrange a collection with him, call 07939 850622.
