CRIME stopping groups, individuals and organisations who have helped Bromsgrove become a safer place could be in line for a prestigious award.

Residents are being urged to nominate crime-fighters and people who have had a positive impact across the district throughout 2013.

The deadline for the Spirit of Bromsgrove Awards is next Sunday (January 12).

The Bromsgrove District Council awards have been designed to recognise those who have shown outstanding passion and commitment to improving the safety and feelings of safety in their neighbourhoods.

Nominations can be for anything from working to reduce anti-social behaviour to helping support others who have been affected by criminal behaviour.

Organisers want to hear about Bromsgrove people, clubs and organisations which have made a difference and among the categories are junior and senior sports personality, outstanding under 18 individual, young volunteer of the year, sports coach of the year, outstanding organisation (youth arts category) and junior sports club / team of the year.

There is also outstanding organisation, Bromsgrove unsung hero, sports club of the year and most promising newcomer (individual and an organisation).

Those shortlisted will be invited to an awards ceremony at Artrix on February 25 where the winners will be revealed.

The ceremony, sponsored by the Safer Bromsgrove Group of North Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership, will be held at Artrix on February 25.

Bev Houghton, chair of the Safer Bromsgrove Group, said: "Bromsgrove is a safe place to live, work and visit and this is in no small part due to the contribution of local community members and groups working with a variety of community safety partners to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour."

She added the accolades were to celebrate the fantastic crime prevention work being done and the individuals and groups which helped keep Bromsgrove safe.
