POLICE have launched a murder investigation after an elderly man found in a Northfield flat with stab wounds more then a month ago died in hospital on New Year's Eve.
Barry Wilkins, 71, had suffered serious injuries when he was discovered at the address in Norrington Road at 6pm on November 24.
He was treated for the stab wounds to his stomach, back and shoulder and was in a critical condition in hospital for 38 days.
But he lost his fight for life on Tuesday (December 31) and the incident has now become a murder case.
Susan Hughes, 41, of Linley Grove, Kings Heath, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court on November 26 after being charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
She is due to appear before Birmingham Crown Court on March 4.
West Midlands Police Det Insp Simon Astle said: “This was an isolated incident and we understand the defendant and injured man were known to each other."
