A LOTTERY syndicate led by a Bromsgrove woman had a very merry Christmas after winning £1million on a scratchcard.
The 14-strong group from Motel Rocks in Redditch each won £71,428.57.
Caroline O'Meara, credit controller and syndicate leader, said it was only by chance they won the prize. Having started the syndicate in February their success through the year had seen them build up £270 in the kitty.
They spent £200 on tickets for the Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve EuroMillions draws and the remaining £70 on scratchcards, each scratching them off and placing them on Caroline's desk to check them.
The 53-year-old said: "I went through the 13 and nothing and then came to the 14th and I noticed only part of the Scratchcard had been revealed. So I found a coin and scratched the final part of the three sections and it said I had matched the symbols and won £1million.
"I asked some of my colleagues to check and after we had realised what we had won everyone just started to scream and jump up and down."
The mother of two plans to use the win to treat the family. Other members of the syndicate are still in shock and deciding what to do with their windfall - holidays, cars and home renovations have all been mentioned.
