A DIAMOND Droitwich couple celebrated 60 years of marital bliss on Tuesday (December 24)..

John and Jane Lymer, of Camp Hill, first met in July 1953 in Valley, Anglesey, and took their vows in the town’s registry office just five months later on Christmas Eve.

John, who was a part of an RAF squadron stationed in Valley, was 22 years-old when he first met Jane, 27. She was working in the canteen the servicemen used.

John said the two were walking down the beach when he proposed. He added he had not planned to get down on one knee and the whole thing had happened out of the blue.

Once married the happy couple went on to have four children, including a set of twins, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

John and Jane’s children organised a special surprise to help them celebrate and mark the wonderful occasion in style - the pair had their vows blessed and then went on to a special party at the St Andrew’s House Hotel.

When asked what he thought was the secret to a happy marriage, John told The Standard: “It’s because everything we do we do together plus we have never had an argument - we are just happy together.

“We both think a lot of the one another also.”
