A puppy was left out in cold in Frankley

A HEARTLESS pet owner dumped a six-month old puppy outside the gates of the RSPCA centre in Frankley on Wednesday (December 11).

A silver Renault was caught on CCTV drawing up to the gate of the Birmingham Animal Centre and Hospital at around 11am.

The driver then lent across and forced the Staffordshire bull terrier puppy out before speeding off.

The Staffie, wearing a pink diamonte collar, tried desperately to run after the car but it was to no avail.

Fortunately she was picked up by two members of the public. The pup who is now being cared for at the centre has been named Tinsel.

Elaine Buchan, the centre's manager, said it was really hard for the staff to watch the incident on the CCTV footage.

"As she starts to follow the car your heart just breaks for her, she’s been dumped alone and left confused – just because someone doesn’t want her anymore.

"It is even more upsetting that this has been done just before Christmas.

“People who take on animals have a legal responsibility to care for them and people who take on a pet should take into account whether they have the time and money to care for the animal 365 days of the year for potentially the next ten to 20 years.

“Dumping them is not acceptable – pets are a lifelong commitment"

The pup is now one of many Staffies which have been abandoned - currently there are 22 at the Birmingham centre.

Tinsel will be available for rehoming at a later date and is one of many who desperately need of a loving home for Christmas.

Call the centre on 0300 123 8585 for more.
