THE BOSS of a Bromsgrove builders merchants has spoken of his shock after the firm's £10,000 Iveco Hiab Crane Truck was taken from a secure lock-up.

Paul Warren, the director of Broad Street DIY, said the vehicle was stolen at around 9.10pm on Saturday night (December 7) after the thieves broke into the building and moved another lorry and a fork-lift truck out of the way to get to the Hiab which was at the back of the building.

The theft was noticed the next morning.

The white truck has the registration number LT52 XKN and 'Broad Street DIY' and the firm's logo emblazoned on the front and sides.

Mr Warren told The Standard: "They obviously knew what they were looking for.

"We have a number of jobs which are dependent on that vehicle.

"Some will probably be fine, but we will lose the business on others, especially if there are people have ordered items and they cannot get them in time to do the work they need to do.

"Obviously we will find another vehicle soon, but they are not that easy to come by - they are a bit specialist.

"We had a similar truck stoen about 15 years ago, but back then the vehicle was in the yard and not a lock-up."

Mr Warren Tweeted a picture of the truck and an appeal on Sunday (December 8) but so far the vehicle has not been found.

Bromsgrove Police confirmed the burglary had been reported and said officers were investigating the incident.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information should call Bromsgrove Police on 101, quoting the reference 252S081213, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
