MORE than 150 festive hampers will be giving vulnerable and needy residents across Bromsgrove district a better Christmas, thanks to the annual food drive by NewStarts, in conjunction with the Bromsgrove Lions, The Basement Project, NewSong Community Church and Age UK.
Marion Kenyon, NewStarts' chief executive, praised the generosity of the Bromsgrove public.
"This would not be possible without the donations of money and food from local people.
"Our thanks go to everyone who contributed either by donating food, money or their time to ensure those in most need are able to enjoy Christmas this year.
"Acts of kindness such as this are not forgotten."
She said one family who donated food this year said they did so because two years ago, they were helped by the annual food drive and now, because of that, they were in a position to help others.
* A COLLECTION at Droitwich's Waitrose by Bromsgrove's NewStarts last Friday and Saturday (December 13 and 14) saw enough items donated to make up 300 emergency food parcels.
Marion thanked Waitrose for hosting and helping with the collection, those from other partner organisations who assisted and everyone who donated items.
"Food poverty is an ongoing issue and anyone with food donations is welcome to drop them off at NewStarts, 1 Sherwood Road, Bromsgrove," she added.
She said, in the new year, NewStarts would be looking for businesses and organisations to collect food on-site to help with the ongoing food and poverty issues that so many individuals and families were facing.
