A RAIL passenger has contacted The Standard to say services between Bromsgrove and Birmingham New Street were a lot better on Saturday (December 7).

We reported on our front page last Friday (December 6) how some passengers on their way to the Second City for some Christmas shopping or to visit the German market were unable to get on.

But this Saturday, there were four-carriage trains on the 11.43am and on some of the services in the afternoon. The doors in the last carriage were kept closed whilst it was at Bromsgrove Station as it did not fit on the platform.

A spokesperson for London Midland said: “We know we have high passenger numbers and we are monitoring the situation.

“We are seeing where there is overcrowding and, where we can, we are putting on additional capacity.”

She added the operator would continue that strategy up until Christmas.

The passenger who contacted us said: “The 11.43am was really full with some people standing, even with the extra carriage.

“The 11.15am still had spaces on it and that is still the better option.

“But what a difference a week makes - this time no one was turned away, everyone who wanted to get on the train was able to do so.”
