A MAN had to be cut from his car this morning (Monday) after a multi-vehicle crash on the southbound carriageway of the M5 motorway between Bromsgrove and Droitwich.

The man, who had a pre-existing spinal injury, also suffered pains to his shoulder and rib and, after being immobolised, was taken to the Worcester Royal following the incident.

It happened at around 9.25am between Junction 4 at Lydiate Ash and Junction 5 for Droitwich.

Two others in the same car were also injured in the crash and were also taken to the Worcester Royal.

The car containing the three men, a lorry and a number of other vehicles were involved in the incident, which also led to the closing of the carriageway and drivers facing long delays.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service sent two crews from Bromsgrove, two from Droitwich and one from Redditch. After rescuing the person in the car, firefighters made the four vehicles safe.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed a senior paramedic officer in a rapid response vehicle, a paramedic area support officer in a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew attended.
