Candlelit vigil a show of support

A CANDLELIT vigil is being held as a show of support for the Alexandra Hospital ahead of a key decision date on its future.

Save the Alex is organising the event outside the entrance of the Woodrow Drive hospital on Thursday, December 12, from 4pm to 7pm and the public are free to drop in at any time.

It is behind held almost eight years to the day a similar vigil took place the last time services at the Alex were under threat.

The event will be the last opportunity for a show of public support before the independent panel reports back on its analysis of the two options for the future of the Alex.

Neal Stote, chairman of Save the Alex, said: "The evidence based document produced by Redditch, Bromsgrove and Stratford councils clearly shows loss of services at the Alex would be extremely detrimental to the area and impact on the most vulnerable in our society.

"The candlelit vigil will be a symbol of hope, hope the NHS has listened to the hours of lobbying we have done behind the scenes, to the 600 plus people who wrote to commissioners, the 2,500 people who marched, the 55,000 people who signed the petition and to all who said no to cutting services at the Alex."
