A BUDDING film producer from Barnt Green has been awarded 'Best Feature Film' for her independent thriller film 'Vodka and Chips' at the Worcestershire Film Festival.

Shelia Evans, from Fiery Hill Road, received her award at a special ceremony held at The Hive, in Worcester, for her hard work writing and producing the feature.

In total, 58 nominated films were screened across three days in Worcester at The Hive, the University of Worcester and at the Worcester Arts Workshop.

'Vodka and Chips', produced by Walktall Productions and Thunderstruck Films, is about a Russian criminal who flees the mafia in his homeland and takes up residency in Barnt Green.

Most of the filming took place in and around Barnt Green, the Lickeys and South Birmingham.

Sheila said: "It went really well - we won a best feature film trophy so we're very happy.

"It was a magnificent effort on behalf of the Hive and they deserve a lot of gratitude from the people who put their films in."

Bill Evans, Sheila's husband who helped produce the film, said he hoped the fact they won the award even though they were a small production company with virtually no budget would encourage young film makers and practitioners.

Shelia is now working on producing her next feature film 'Shadow of a Stipple'. filming is due to finish Sunday (November 24), and will be sent to film festivals as soon as it is finished.
