A TRIO of household food and drink chains have been confirmed as joining Sainsbury’s at the £70 million Longbridge town centre development.
Greggs, Simply Eat and Costa Coffee have all signed ten year leases on units in what will be the new high street.
They will join other confirmed brands in the new development including Hungry Horse, Premier Inn and Beefeater alongside the 50,000 sq ft Sainsbury’s which will be the anchor store for the area.
In total there will be 24 shops and restaurants in the town centre.
Adrian Gibbins, regional property manager at Greggs, described Longbridge as a prime location which provided an ideal opportunity.
Emma Hobbs, acquisition manager at Costa Coffee said there was a fantastic range of retailers in the area and hoped the coffee shop would play and active part in the community, while George Burdett from Simply Eat, described the area as a unique development and exciting site for the West Midlands based retailer to open a store.
Mike Murrey, senior development surveyor at St Modwen, said: “The town centre will be the centrepiece to the Longbridge regeneration project and will not only be an attractive and lively destination for residents, workers and students, but will also bring a significant boost to the community, creating jobs and restoring confidence in the local economy.”
During a recent visit to the new Sainsbury’s supermarket, which is expected to generate 320 new jobs alone, Northfield MP Richard Burden called for long-term investment in Longbridge.
“Whilst the new Sainsbury’s and town centre are hugely exciting, we also need jobs and long-term growth that go beyond retail and hospitality,” he said.
“We need to invest in the area’s long-term future to reflect its strategic significance and importance as a designated ITEC park.”
