BUILDING work has started on new Bromsgrove retail park which will house a Homebase and a Pets at Home providing around 75 new jobs.

The land at Sherwood Road in Aston Fields has been derelict since engineering firm Barpro closed its factory several years ago, however the new stores could open as early as next spring.

The 4.2 acre site will include two retail units - 25,000 sq ft and 9,000 sq ft - as well as parking for 161 cars.

It is estimated Homebase will generate around 50 jobs and Pets at Home will provide another 24.

Chase Commercial is behind the new development which already has planning permission from Bromsgrove District Council.

The company has appointed Anglo Construction to carry out the building work which includes landscaping to improve the appearance of the nearby Brook which the retail park is name after.

Becky Yates, development manager at Chase Commercial, said: "We are delighted to announce that the contractor is now on site at Brook Retail Park.

"The scheme will mark a major improvement to this area which has been blighted by this empty factory and surrounding land.

"From an ecological point of view, there has been a tremendous amount of work done in conjunction with the Environment Agency.

"The development will transform this prominent location for the benefit of the local community."
