REWARD money put up to help catch the burglar who caused a pet dog to lose an eye has been donated to charity following the raider been sent to prison.
In September last year, an 86-year-old woman's home in Hanbury Road, Stoke Prior was broken in to while she was out at church.
Her eight-year-old Kiri suffered a bloody injury as a result of the incident which led incensed villagers to collect £500 to be given to anyone who could provide information which led to a successful conviction.
Daniel Senior, 21 and from Kingswinford was arrested and pleaded guilty to burgling the home.
On March 14 he was sentenced to 16 months on top of six months for a drug charge at Worcester Crown Court.
However, because it was forensic evidence which led to his capture, the money has instead been pledged to Evesham Dogs Trust and a fund set up for Greater Manchester PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes who were murdered in September last year.
Insp Ed Slough of West Midlands Police, said: "A lot of people were shocked and outraged by this case.
"We are pleased that two very worthwhile and deserving causes will benefit from the donations, and would like to thank all of those who gave so generously.
Senior denied hurting the dog and Judge Toby Cooper QC deemed the injury was likely caused by broken glass which was smashed when Senior entered through the back door.
Following his sentence, Insp Slough said: "This was a particularly nasty incident which left the dog blind in one eye.
"Burglaries like this can have a deep and long-lasting impact on victims who are often left feeling vulnerable and uncomfortable in their own homes.
"The dog is a constant companion to the owner and the incident has left her nervous about going out and leaving the dog alone."
He added burglary was a top priority for West Mercia Police and said anyone found guilty could expect to serve time behind bars.
