A BROMSGROVE biker has spoken of his disappointment that when the new driving tests are available from the town’s Halfords branch, it will be for car drivers only and not motorcyclists as well.
The rider got in touch after being told by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), which is running the tests.
He said: “I feel and believe this is another example of bikers being overlooked and generally discriminated against.
“I say this as learner motorcyclists have to undergo four official tests to gain full motorcycle status, where learner car drivers have only two, and yet for testing they get preferential treatment.”
A DSA spokesperson told The Standard the Taking Testing to the Customer project was still at an early stage.
“We are only offering car tests at the moment whilst we evaluate how the initiative works in practice.
“We have not undertaken a cost analysis or risk assessment of providing motorcycle tests from Halfords in Bromsgrove.”
But, he added, if the scheme continued to work well, the DSA would be in a position to consider offering all categories of driving test, from venues other than traditional test centres.
“This will also be determined by the decisions that emerge from the Motoring Services Strategy consultation exercise, which closed on March 7.”
The DSA spokesperson said driving tests were set to be available from Bromsgrove Halfords as soon as possible, but added he was unable to give a start date at the moment.
