AN INQUEST has been opened into the death of a Bromsgrove man who was found in a car on Monday (March 11).

Peter McKernan, 44, was found in the vehicle when it was parked in the car park of the Marlbrook pub.

The fire service received the first call at 11.10pm to reports of a blue car on fire on a parking area, off Birmingham Road, Marlbrook.

The police and ambulance service were also called.

One fire crew from Bromsgrove and another from Redditch was sent to the incident.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and helped gain access to the vehicle and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We are now working with the police in a bid to ascertain exactly what happened."

Officers from Bromsgrove Police, who are investigating the incident, say they are treating it as unexplained, but added they were not searching for anyone else in connection with it.

They have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with any information to call them on 101.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the incident, but were stood down when the man was pronounced dead.

The inquest was opened and adjourned, awaiting reports.
